Enshrouded is a solo and co-op survival action RPG where your freedom and creativity come first. Conquer the Shroud, a corrupting fog devouring the kingdom of Embervale: explore a handcrafted world full of secrets, forge your hero your way, and build anything, anywhere in a fully terraformable land.
The fools of the old world ruthlessly mined the earth for a magical elixir, and unleashed a ruinous fog — and corrupted creatures — from the depths. The kingdom was lost, but not before a few remaining warriors were placed in a long, dreamless sleep, until such time they could fight anew... that time has come.
Enshrouded is a co-op online multiplayer game. The game can be played solo and offline, but we strongly encourage players to grab a friend or three (up to 16 players on PC and 8 on PS5, 16 on PS5 dedicated servers!) before setting out into the Shroud. It is just more fun! Apart from regular peer-to-peer hosting, dedicated servers are also supported, either self-hosted or rented.
The game ends its early access phase on Steam on the 15th of October when the full release version 1.0 launches. On the same day, Enshrouded is available on PS5. Xbox X|S is planned for Spring 2027.
We use the Holistic Engine®, which is an engine we created ourselves, specifically designed and optimized to build Enshrouded.
Share your feedback with us on FeatureUpvote! We periodically review the most popular or interesting suggestions and have integrated a whole bunch into our game over the years.
Buy the game! Tell a friend! Tell your neighbors! Invite them to play! Development will benefit directly from more people knowing about Enshrouded and we have specifically made a game that can be played in single player, but truly shines when played with friends.

It is possible to set up dedicated servers, if you don't want to always have to be online for your friends to be able to play. The Multiplayer & Server Hosting category on our knowledge base should provide you with all the information you need to get started

As of yet there is no PvP mode in the game or any PvP mode planned. The game itself will stay as it is as a co-op game, as we think experiencing the game together is more fun compared to fighting against each other. Maybe, but only maybe, we might consider adding some modes in the future just to have some fun on the side.
When we are creating the world, we use both procedural tools and a lot of old fashioned manual work by free-range game designers to help our team create an immersive meaningful experience, that is as exciting and fun as it can be while also representing the scale of a kingdom.
There are no questions that mods contribute greatly to what can make a good game truly great. While Enshrouded 1.0 will ship without mod support, we are looking into supporting mods in the future.
At the moment, enemies are only interested in attacking the players, not their bases or dwellings. Based on Early Access feedback, we heard this is a feature many are interested in. Designing base raids brought a lot of new interesting problems to solve, and as a result is being considered for updates after the 1.0 launch.
You can absolutely use Early Access saves once the game releases in 1.0. Our save format is improving, so saves will be converted to a new, more efficient format. However, note that we have made many improvements to the world and first few hours of the game, so if you're up for it, we strongly encourage you to start over!
You can absolutely take your favorite character with you and swap between servers. They will retain their entire equipment and inventory, as well as levels / skills unlocked.
In addition, they will also maintain:
Map memory (locations and fog of war removed)
Personal crafting recipes (crafting that does not require a workbench)
Previously collected Shroud roots (you cannot farm Shroud roots by making new worlds)
Previously found lore texts and tutorials
Towers you found by yourself
They will not maintain:
The majority of crafting recipes (they are dependent on NPCs and crafting stations unlocked in the world)
Available NPCs for summon (gotta liberate them in the new world, too!)
Towers that were found by others and shared with the group
Yes you can. Please respect our "Fan Created Content Guidelines". you can find here.
You do not need to buy Enshrouded PC again if you own the Early Access version.
Entitlements for the game are different between Steam and the PlayStation Store, so if you already own the game on PC, you will need to buy it again for PS5.
Enshrouded will not be cross-platform at launch, but we know many of your friendships have survived years of console wars. We are working on bringing cross-platform play to Enshrouded, but have no current estimate on how much time it will take us.
There are a few differences between the PC and PS5 versions:
- The PS5 version makes full use of the Dual Sense controller, as well as PSSR support on PS5 PRO
- The PC version can have up to 16 concurrent players, the PS5 can have up to 8 players and 16 on dedicated servers.
- And the same great game!
We are hard at work ensuring the full release of Enshrouded on PC and PS5 goes as smoothly as possible. After the launch, we will turn our efforts towards completing the Xbox version, which we aim to release in Spring 2027.
Currently, only the PC, PS5, and Xbox S|X versions of Enshrouded are being worked on. If we get sufficient interest from Switch 2 players, maybe we'll look into it, so make sure to let us know on our social platforms that you'd like to see a Switch 2 version!
Yes, Enshrouded is now Steam Deck certified!
No. However, distributions like SteamOS have no problem running Enshrouded.
At the moment, Enshrouded dedicated servers needs to be hosted via a Windows emulator on Linux. We plan to provide native Linux support for the dedicated server in the future. Stay tuned!
No, Enshrouded is not made with AI. Enshrouded is built one voxel at a time, by our team of designers, programmers and artists, and all the other folks who help them bring their vision to life.
